DEI Publishing Spotlight - March 2021

At SAGE, we are committed to publishing books that reflect the make-up of society and are free from biased language and stereotypes.  In practical terms, this means recruiting more authors of color, guiding all our authors to write inclusively and publishing books that promote social equality.

From the book proposal, right through to the style sheet we give to freelance copy-editors and proofreaders, we are incorporating diversity, equity and inclusion into all of our guidelines and templates.

Two titles we have recently published are:

Anamik Saha’s Race, Culture & Media and Paula Hamilton’s Diversity & Marginalisation in Childhood.

Anamik is an expert on race and the cultural industries and co-authored the UK’s first in-depth academic study on diversity in trade fiction and the publishing industry.

Paula’s PhD focused on the inclusion of migrant worker children in primary schools.
