Introducing the SAGE Pedagogy Task Force
By Judi Burger, Senior Content Development Manager and Rachel Crookes, Head of SAGE Campus
At SAGE, we are constantly having conversations about pedagogy: How can we apply the art and science of education practice to provide outstanding teaching and learning experiences for students and instructors? We have a hunger to go deeper when it comes to understanding how SAGE products contribute to great learning in the classroom, what our pedagogy tangibly does for learners and faculty, and how our learning design can stay high quality, change for the better or adapt to meet needs.
We launched the SAGE Pedagogy Task Force with a mission to consolidate expertise from across our Editorial and Product teams and apply these insights to develop high quality learning resources based on sound educational principles, philosophies and evidence.
Right now, we’re working on three goals:
Share and showcase best practice
We’re compiling an internal pedagogy ‘playbook’ to help us both document and create pedagogical features with skill. By sharing our expertise with each other, we hope to ‘do the basics’ even better while also inspiring each other to try new approaches that keep our resources relevant for learners and compelling for educators.
Create a shared definition of successful pedagogy for SAGE
What do we mean when we say we create ‘good’ pedagogy or have a learning design vision for our book, our course or our digital module? Are we using terms harmoniously or talking at cross purposes? We’ll be using workshops to co-create a vision statement for successful pedagogy at SAGE that will give our teams more clarity, direction and confidence as we publish new resources for the classroom. Our different product teams will be able to articulate their own pedagogy ‘footprint’, as well as understanding how it fits into our wider pedagogical vision at SAGE.
Share SAGE’s pedagogical vision, craft and expertise within the academic community
SAGE is widely recognized for our high-quality pedagogical standards across a varied range of products; from video and textbooks to online courses and digital archives. Over the coming year we plan to share our vision, craft and expertise with the academic community with a range of webinars, workshops, thought papers, and other resources for academics and students alike to deepen learning and share best pedagogical practice.
What kind of resources would you like to receive from SAGE that support innovative and evidence-based pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning? We’d love to hear from you, you can contact us at pedagogy@sagepub.co.uk
