Measuring Societal Impact in Business & Management Research: From Challenges to Change
This Sage Business White Paper focusses on issues relating to existing bibliometrics and institutional reward structures at play within business schools. We aim to move the dial towards ways in which societal impact could become central to the assessment of business and management research.
This paper follows lively discussion, encouraging feedback and fertile follow-up questions from a recent webinar of the same title featuring some of the above names. This webinar took place within the context of the Financial Times’ (FT) “slow hackathon” and a recent contribution to the Sage-published Business & Society journal regarding the FT’s business school rankings.
The ecosystem of technologies for social science research
Following a review of over 400 research tools and software, this white paper examines the ecosystem of technologies for social science research. It addresses the challenges facing those who build and use these tools, and looks to the future of technology in social research.
The paper presents the methodology and findings of research conducted by the team behind Sage Ocean, an initiative launched by Sage in 2018 to support social scientists to gain the skills, tools and resources required to work with big data and computational research methods.
Research impact in the social sciences
Establishes imperatives and recommended actions to improve the measurement of social and behavioral science impact with insight from world-leading experts.
Based on a workshop we convened with representatives from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Altmetric, the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University, Clarivate Analytics, Google, New York University, School Dash, SciTech Strategies, the Social Science Research Council, and the University of Washington.
