New Transformative Agreement from SAGE and The Canadian Research Knowledge Network Enables Unlimited Open Access Publishing Rights for Affiliated Researchers

SAGE Publishing and The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) announce a new ‘read and publish’ agreement to benefit researchers affiliated with CRKN’s member institutions. The agreement provides Canadian researchers at participating institutions with:

  • Unlimited open access publishing rights in 900+ hybrid journals, including titles published on behalf of or in association with 400+ societies

  • Reading access to those 900+ peer-reviewed journals (950,000+ articles)

  • Discounted article publishing charges for SAGE’s 150+ pure Gold Open Access journals

Beginning January 1, 2021, the agreement will last for the next three years.

CRKN is a partnership of 81 institutions across Canada, including academic libraries and research institutions, national libraries, and Canada’s largest public library system. As part of SAGE’s commitment to openness in the research process, this agreement allows Canadian researchers at institutions partaking in the agreement to easily access more research and have their work available to read immediately upon publication.

“Our main objective for this agreement was to increase open access publishing options as cost effectively as possible, with an open access article workflow process that is transparent and manageable for CRKN, our members, and their affiliated authors,” says Clare Appavoo, Executive Director of CRKN. “We are pleased to offer these additional open access options to Canadian researchers at participating institutions as part of our overall commitment to transform scholarly communications.”

David Ross, Vice President of Open Research at SAGE, says: “We’re excited to expand our relationships within Canada to better support researchers from the country along their publishing journey. This agreement will both enable and amplify critical scholarship, particularly in the social and behavioral sciences.”
