SAGE Publishing Launches the 10-Year Impact Awards

Today SAGE Publishing announces the launch of the 10-Year Impact Awards, recognizing research that is influential for the longer-term. SAGE will present awards to the three articles published in SAGE journals that are most highly cited over a 10-year period. The inaugural awards will look at articles published in 2009 and analyze their citation data through the end of 2019.

The 10-Year Impact Awards are a part of SAGE's larger effort to inspire and change the conversation around research impact, especially in the social and behavioral sciences (SBS). While SAGE is invested in finding new ways to recognize impact outside of academia, these awards will celebrate research with influence that has come later or grown over time. This is especially important for SBS work where influence is not always immediately apparent.

Earlier efforts to extend the conversation around research impact include the 2019 report "The Latest Thinking About Metrics for Research Impact in the Social Sciences;" an annual Impact in Action Writing Contest; a quarterly newsletter that collates topics for discussion, news, and articles; and a microsite spotlighting research geared towards real-world change. The publisher also continues to support groups that advocate for SBS funding.

SAGE will announce the winning 2009 articles in May and award a small cash prize to the articles' authors. To learn more about the award and SAGE's impact initiative, read their recent blog post on Social Science Space.
