Sage sponsors The Evidence newsletter that puts gender inequality front and center

Sage is financially supporting Gloria Media to launch The Evidence, a bold new feminist newsletter that covers everything you need to know about gender inequality, all in one place. The newsletter, which goes live on March 4, takes the latest in social science research on gender equality from any publisher and makes it accessible and useful to everyone who may need it, whether they’re trying to change their community, their workplace, or the laws of their country. 

Written by veteran science communicator Josephine Lethbridge, The Evidence will appear on the fourth Monday of every month. The first edition focuses on recent findings on the growing political gender gap between the men and women of Generation Z, and what’s driving the trend. 

Each edition delves into a new facet of gender inequality, and provides inspiration for action by telling the story of a local initiative, project, or policy that effectively addressed the issue illuminated by the research. The Evidence team will comb through the latest findings, insights and breakthroughs in gender inequality research to draw out compelling stories about how we can make the world more equal, from closing the gender pay gap, to sharing the burden of care work, to taking a feminist approach to fighting climate change. 

There are millions of people all over the world working to advance feminist causes with the goal of building an equal world for future generations: activists, thinkers, writers, politicians, policymakers and creative workers. But too often, insights from the world of research do not reach these people. This means activists and everyday citizens lack the solid evidence they need to make their cases for gender equality, whether those cases are brought before parliament, in workplaces or within families. The Evidence will make that knowledge accessible to everyone.

About Josephine Lethbridge 

Josephine Lethbridge has bridged the worlds of research and journalism for the past decade. She has a particular interest in explaining the intersections of today’s crises – and empowering people to find the agency to act on them. She spent eight years as an editor at The Conversation UK, where she launched a series of innovative formats including Insights, a section dedicated to longform investigations. Since then, she has partnered with a wide range of organisations, from academic institutions such as the University of Sussex and Max Planck Institute, to grassroots initiatives like Faculty for a Future. With these partners, she has crafted evidence-based stories and interventions that use research to spark positive social change. Her work on the dangers of net zero won a Covering Climate Now award in 2022; and an investigation into Haitian peacekeepers featured on the front page of The Times and led to multiple governmental and UN inquiries as well as changes to UN peacekeeper training. Josephine is lead author of the report Communicating Complex Crises: a toolkit for academics. She lives in South-east London. 

 

About Megan Clement 

Megan Clement has made telling stories about gender inequality her mission for her entire career. She has written about gender equality for The Guardian, CNN, Al Jazeera, The New Humanitarian and SBS, among other publications. Megan edits Impact, a bilingual newsletter covering feminist movements and women’s rights worldwide. She also teaches journalism at the Sorbonne-Nouvelle University. Previously, Megan was Managing Editor of Women’s Advancement Deeply and a foundation editor of The Conversation, helping launch the site in Australia, the UK and the US. She was Deputy Editor of the UK and subsequently the Global edition, and also ran the « en anglais » section of The Conversation’s French edition. She is the inaugural winner of the Island Magazine Nonfiction Prize. In 2018, she won an International Labour Organization media award for her work as an editor on an investigation into the conditions of migrant workers in Gulf states. Megan is a co-founder of The Gender Beat, a collective of journalists working to raise the profile of gender journalism and the people who make it happen, and co-author of the report, Gender is Part of Every Story – The Global Landscape of Gender and Feminist Journalism.
