How to screen and assimilate scholarly literature in a more systematic way

  • London United Kingdom (map)

Studies have shown that researchers and students are overwhelmed with the volume of reading*, and that that scientific papers are getting harder to read**. Because of this, screening the literature to identify key information is becoming more difficult.

Scholarcy is used by students and researchers to screen papers and create literature reviews. It breaks down research papers and book chapters into interactive flashcards that help with non-linear exploration of a text. As well as providing an overall summary of the paper, the flashcards also include links to background reading and highlight information about study participants, methods, key findings, study limitations, future work, as well as linking to the full text of every reference.

In this session, we’ll show you how you can extract and assimilate key information in a more systematic way and critically analyse the text by easily identifying:

• how the author positions their work in relation to previous studies;
• what the key findings of any cited studies are;
• other indicators of the quality of the research.
