Lean Library Partners with CORE to Ease Library Patron Access to OA Materials

Lean Library, a browser extension from SAGE Publishing that brings library services into a patron's workflow, has partnered with CORE to make it easier for users to find open access (OA) copies of articles. Utilizing CORE Discovery API, this collaboration not only strengthens plugin users' seamless connection to OA research, but also enables libraries to ease entry into an expanded pool of OA materials.

Employing CORE's dataset of millions of full-text OA papers, CORE Discovery API aggregates articles from thousands of OA data providers, such as repositories and journals, to help patrons find OA copies in reduced time.

"With the integration of the CORE service into Lean Library, we're expanding the coverage of open access articles significantly," says Johan Tilstra, founder of Lean Library. "We're enthusiastic about working with the CORE team, and even more about continuing to simplify library services for all Lean Library users."

Petr Knoth, head of CORE and senior research fellow in text and data mining at the Open University, comments, "Integrating with Lean Library is another example of CORE following the strategy of delivering services where users already are, rather than just asking users to come."

This new partnership marks the expansion of Lean Library's ability to connect patrons to legal copies of OA materials. The browser extension also integrates Unpaywall's OA dataset and continues to seek additional reputable sources of OA material.
