Sage partners with Cassyni to showcase open access research through seminars

Editors, authors, reviewers, and readers can be brought together through engaging live seminar events on the Cassyni platform

Sage is partnering with Cassyni, the research seminar platform, to enable guest editors to introduce special collection topics using live community seminars. This new feature for Sage’s open access (OA) journals will help researchers discover special collections relevant to their research and offer authors new channels to grow their post-publication impact.

Authors of accepted special collections papers will be invited to present a video seminar about their article. On publication, these seminar recordings will be embedded alongside the publication on the Sage Journals platform, enhanced with Cassyni’s semantic video AI technology.

Cassyni co-founder Ben Kaube noted, “Giving authors the opportunity to present their work in video seminars allows them to add important context and nuance often omitted from the manuscript. Allowing readers to hear directly from the actual researchers conducting the research injects transparency, bolstering research integrity and reproducibility.”

Seminar recordings will be assigned separate DOIs and will be made discoverable through Cassyni’s integrations into the wider scholarly ecosystem. This includes integrations with popular research tools EndNote and Digital Science’s Dimensions, as well as within Cassyni’s online seminar library.

Additional functionalities of Cassyni include:

  • An accessible smart player embedded on the Sage Journals platform alongside the article

  • Crossref DOIs for each seminar linked to the article it relates to

  • Automatic slide outlines for easy content navigation

  • References to scholarly literature hyperlinked within the video

  • The ability  to subscribe to updates on relevant seminars

“As an independent publisher and long-term advocate of open science, Sage is committed to increasing research impact and accessibility,” said Martha Sedgwick, VP Innovation - Research & Learning. “This means doing Special Collections the right way, ensuring robust independent peer review, inviting expert guest editors, and providing specialist support at every stage of the OA journey. I’m delighted that now, with this partnership with Cassyni,  Sage OA authors will be able to access new services to help them showcase their work and grow their research impact.”

The new feature will be available in eight special collection titles. Launch journals include:
