Ziyad Marar Elected Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Recognition of Long-Standing Advocacy of the Social Sciences

Ziyad Marar, President of Global Publishing at SAGE Publishing, has been elected to the Fellowship of the Academy of Social Sciences (AcSS) in recognition of his long-standing advocacy of the social and behavioral sciences (SBS) and commitment to advancing their impact.

As head of SAGE’s global publishing strategy, Marar has built on and developed SAGE’s sustained support of social science through numerous initiatives that protect, champion and advance the applications of SBS research. Over his 30 years at SAGE he has convened impactful events and workshops, launched the popular community website Social Science Space and associated podcast, and published numerous thought-leadership pieces as well as key titles in SAGE’s textbook and journals portfolio.

Central to Marar’s work is his commitment to reevaluating the methods used for measuring SBS research impact. He has been instrumental in advancing SAGE’s work in this space, from the launch of the SAGE 10 Year Impact Awards and publication of a 2019 Impact Report, to convening with US Congress to protect SBS funding and provide education on the unique, positive impact of SBS research.

Marar sits on the board of the LSE Impact Blog and has co-authored a number of reports with the Campaign for Social Science including the recent Vital Business report which showcases the value of the social sciences to UK business. More details of his and SAGE’s advocacy and celebration of social science and its impact can be found in this editorial by Marar and on SAGE’s website.
