C4DISC Releases Anti-Racism Toolkit for Organizations

Published by the Coalition for Diversity and Inclusion in Scholarly Communications (C4DISC) and Toolkits for Equity in Scholarly Publishing project volunteers, this resource is intended to help scholarly publishing professionals transform their workplace culture through an antiracism and equity lens.

The Anti-Racism Toolkit for Organizations was created to help us better understand institutionalized racism, to better support Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) staff, to model antiracist leadership, build structures around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) work, and create policies and procedures that address inequities, disparities, and racist systems.

This toolkit is the second in a series of three diversity, equity and inclusion resources. The first was launched in August 2020 and focused on antiracism resources for allies and a resource for Black, Indigenous and People of Color is forthcoming.

A cross-organizational effort, SAGE’s Karen Phillips and Kiren Shoman were two of the volunteers who helped put this together.

“This toolkit has been a truly collaborative effort impressively well organised by the project leaders with the support of C4DISC. It’s been great to be part of the project which elicited engagement and commitment to promote antiracism across scholarly publishing. I intend to use guidance from the Toolkit at SAGE to help us deliver on our organizational DEI goals. More broadly I hope to see the Toolkit have a positive impact across scholarly publishing,” said Karen Phillips, SVP of Learning and UK Executive Lead at SAGE Publishing.
