International Women's Day | March 8, 2023

Join us in updating the public profiles of scholars doing critical work at the Women in Social & Behavioral Science Wikipedia Edit-a-thon. Participants can join in the editing virtually or in person in Washington, DC or London.

Wikipedia is the fifth most visited website in the world. But only 19% of Wikipedia’s biographies are of women. Through this event, we will spread awareness and raise the profile of women scholars doing critical work to advance their disciplines, improve how our sciences are taught, and create solutions to pressing social issues. We will highlight scholars who are marginalized or traditionally overlooked so that their work can benefit academia and beyond.

We invite you to join us in this effort (note that no previous experience with Wikipedia is required – we will give you all the training you need!). Participants can join in the editing virtually or in person at the SAGE offices in Washington, DC (1400 L St., NW) or London (1 Olivers Yard, 55 City Road, EC1Y 1SP). Spaces are limited for those participating in person; food and beverages will be provided.

How to participate:

Step 1: Register to participate (those hoping to participate in person must register by Thursday, February 23).

Step 2:  Watch a 75-minute virtual training (you must watch the training in its entirety in order to participate in the event on March 8th!).

Step 3: Join the event on Wednesday, March 8 (a three-hour commitment).

  • All Virtual Participants: 8 a.m. – 11 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. GMT (Zoom link will be provided)

  • DC Participants: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. ET
