In a digital world, how can we educate and train students to spot and respond to misinformation? SAGE Publishing’s Critical Thinking Bootcamp is returning for another day of discussion, guidance, and shared resources to help librarians and professors encourage critical thinking in and out of the classroom.
Between conspiracy theories surrounding the 2020 US elections, the onslaught of false information around the COVID-19 pandemic, and the use of disinformation to fuel social injustices, the task of thinking critically to get to the truth is both more challenging and more important than ever.
Participants in this free, virtual bootcamp will hear from a range of experienced librarians and social and behavioral scientists on combating mis/disinformation within higher ed. Sessions include “Misinformation & Media: The Impact on Universities,” “The Historical Use of Mis/Disinformation and What it Means for Educators,” and “Informing Students About Algorithms and Information Ecosystems.” Additionally, there will be lightning talks and “networking breaks” to allow for further discussion.
Attendees will leave with practical tips to apply, questions to consider, and a toolkit of resources to utilize. All registrants will receive a recording, along with the comprehensive toolkit and slides, in the weeks following the event.
