Celebrating the Americans with Disabilities Act

Celebrating the Americans with Disabilities Act 32 Years

Today marks the 32nd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a landmark civil rights legislation that works to ensure that all people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. Amongst those who worked tirelessly to enshrine disability rights as civil rights, is Judy Heumann, a disability rights leader, and considered by many to be “the mother of disability rights” and “a badass.”  We’ve curated a collection of free-to-access resources and materials, including an interview with Judy, to help strengthen knowledge about the ADA and provide diverse perspectives from people with disabilities.

  • In this interview Aging and Disability – The Advocacy and Research Agendas, Jae Kennedy asks Judy Heumann what society can do to better prepare for aging and disability.

  • In this podcast series The Heumann Perspective, Judy Heumann has conversations around disability culture, art, entertainment, policy and advocacy.

  • This collection on Methodspace provides insights from across the academic community about studying, working, and researching with a disability.

  • In this Methodspace interview, Dr. Ewa Okla discusses her experiences and offers tips for doctoral students and qualitative researchers with disabilities.

  • The Methodspace focus for July 2022 is Researching the Generations and this blog post Studying Ageing and Ageism explores a selection of multidisciplinary open-access articles which offer methodologically diverse research examples of studies that focus on ageing and ageism across the globe.

  • In this Methodspace blogpost, Making Online Learning Accessible, Dr. Linda Bloomberg, author of the Top 10 Teaching Tip series, explains how to make changes and build accessibility in the higher education classroom.
