Pride 2022: Expressions of LGBTQIA+ Joy, Celebrating self, community, media & art

To celebrate Pride Month, SAGE held a virtual panel to celebrate and recognize expressions of LGBTQIA+ joy.

With expertise from diverse perspectives, panelists (full bios below) discussed the vital role that self, community, art, and media play for the LGBTQIA+ community and allies.

Panelists:

  • Rosie Nelson (they/them) is a Lecturer in Gender at the School of Sociology, Politics, and International Studies, University of Bristol. Rosie has a wide range of research interests including minoritized sexualities and genders (particularly bi+ identities), queer theory, and qualitative research methods.

  • Jacob Bloomfield (he/him/they) is a Zukunftskolleg Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Konstanz and an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Kent. His research focuses on Cultural History, the History of Sexuality, and Gender History. Jacob is currently working on a first monograph with the University of California Press on the history of drag performance in modern Britain, as well as a project on the career and legacy of musician Little Richard.

  • Julian Kevon Glover (they/them/she) is a scholar and artist who graduated with honors from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, holds an MPA from Indiana University and earned a PhD in Black Studies from Northwestern University. Their research focuses on Black/Brown queer cultural formations, performance, ethnography, embodied knowledge, performance theory and Black futurity.

  • Jonathan F. Alexander is Chancellor's Professor of English and Gender & Sexuality Studies at the University of California, Irvine, where he is also associate dean in the Division of Undergraduate Education. He is the author, co-author, and co-editor of twenty-two books, including Finding Out: An Introduction to LGBTQ Studies, multiple critical memoirs including Dear Queer Self, and the forthcoming scholarly monograph Writing & Desire: Queer Ways of Composing.

  • Moderated by Gemma Ware from The Conversation in London where she is the co-producer and editor of The Conversation Weekly podcast and is head of audio for The Conversation UK. She previously worked on the international politics, society and education desks of The Conversation.
